Intriguing premise got me to watch this movie: a thief breaks into a home at night, but it so happens a serial killer is already there torturing the family, resulting in a game of cat-and-mouse between the thief and killer.
Unfortunately this movie wallows in plot implausibilities, moreso than a typical horror movie. The killer has set up traps all over the house that both defy the laws of physics, and look like they would have taken a week to set up when he only had a few hours at most. Like many dumb horror flicks, the hero has multiple chances to permanently incapacitate the killer, but chooses not to. Just once I'd like to see someone stab the killer in the kneecap or slice an achilles tendon when they have a chance, rather than turn and run only to be chased down two minutes later. There's also the obligatory "we have to make this an unhappy ending" twist out of nowhere, that is so predictable now because I can't remember the last movie of this type that had any of the leads 'get away'.
I'm not a torture porn fan at all, but thought with this premise there might be something worth watching here. Unfortunately it falls into the regular tropes of the genre, and the unique premise simply turns into the ridiculous. Fans of the Saw movies and torture porn flicks in general will certainly enjoy this more than I did.
