What this and Spielberg’s War of the Worlds do so well is telling a global disaster story from the point of view of just one family. No military talk, no scientists or Bruce Willis blowing up the asteroid just relatable people in a terrifying situation. It doesn’t t break the mould, it just ticks the boxes and works as a result.
