Bicycle Thieves 1949

Leighton Trent’s review:
A beautiful little film. As we see this man and his son struggle to find their bicycle and its thief, we begin to notice how much his life hinges on this bicycle and the desperate lengths he will go to to make ends meet. The ending is beautiful because it appropriately brings us back to the beginning and the last shot is sort of elegiac. The camera work is exceptional, some beautiful photography, and all the cast (non-actors) bring these common people to life so effortlessly. The kid, Enzo Staiola, is amazing!
