What this is an emotionally bare, character-driven, slow-boiling thriller with a clever twist and a poetic denoument. It also gave its audience a moral dilemma, a "what would you do in this situation?"

The cast is put together nicely although Monaghan [again] feels out of place amongst better actors. Casey Affleck, Amy Ryan and Ed Harris give especially good performances.

Ben, as a first time director, shows flaws but also some promise, as well. His shots seem to sometimes linger in the wrong places (looking like the young director he is), but he does catch some good details in amongst the emotional action. I look forward to his next.
