Leighton Trent’s review:
This is the kind of film Cronenberg needs to be making. He's moved far away from these type of stories as he's gotten older. That's understandable: as directors age, their interests change, but I would have to call A Dangerous Method a very distant cousin thematically to anything like this or Naked Lunch. Once again, here, Cronenberg is messing with ideas of society, media and its control, sexuality/pornography, violence - all the while, almost unseemingly painting an ugly future of how all of these could easily escalate, even coalesce. It's inventive and creative (with great special effects as always with him) as it is haunting.
