Amberfool’s review:
A tense Rashomon-like film about a robbery that goes wrong, with great central performances from PSH and Ethan Hawke. It may have been Sidney Lumet's last film, but he sure went out with a bang.
I wouldn't say it's too much like Rashomon apart from the non-linera timeline. Rashomon is typically referenced when multiple accounts of the same incident are compares, and that doesn't happen here. It's more like a fractured timeline than anything else.
And it's a great movie.
non-linera? Man, I didn't even start drinking yet today.
Well it's not exactly like Rashomon, but it is a similar device, in that you keep rewinding to see the same set of events from different perspectives. A closer example might have been 4.3.2.1 or a recent episode of Mad Men entitled "Far Away Places", but I thought Rashomon was still fairly close.
