How to make Letterboxd an even better place?
Since there is no other form of conversation possible on Letterboxd I would like to ask you this way how you would improve the Letterboxd experience?
My main concern is the main activity stream, I would love to have an option for what is shown or have a possibility to separate different events. Different tabs like "all", "reviews", "lists", "likes" etc. would be perfect.
I only follow around 50 people, but still, if I haven't checked in to Letterboxd for only a day, I have to expand the stream countless times. For example, a lot of people like a lot of reviews from people, which is fine, that is what this site is for, but it really clogs up the stream.
I once gave feedback to the creators month ago here
If you share my concerns and if more people support the idea, maybe together we can make Letterboxd an even better place.
Take care,
Horn
AdamMcA's idea to block certain users:

Forum or not, I would have thought it nice to have nested comment threads. Sometimes in high activity threads you have to be very careful making a note of whom you're addressing, if not four people have commented before you and the comment is totally out of place. So... 'in reply to..', '+'-signs or whatever.
I also wouldn't mind a way of splitting reviews. When I'm considering a movie and want to look at a few reviews, I don't want to have to scroll past 25 versions of "This movie sucks" or "This is the greatest movie ever. fuck yeah!".
I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to express their support for a movie in any way they see fit, I'm just saying I'd like a way to get right to the real reviews. I think that's what the ability to "like" reviews was meant to do, but it hasn't worked out that way. I see a lot of movies where the most liked review is something like "I fuckin' love this movie." Great, but that doesn't tell me anything. Presumably, you already clicked "like" on the movie and gave it five stars so you're point is made.
Um... I was wanting a forum until reading some of the comments here... and agree with much of what is said. It would be nice to have some functionality other than lists though, for more general discussions.
@danielm: I just click on the "more" at the "reviews from friends" tab and read that first if I'm interested, normally that is enough. I think that is a good way, I have already read quite a lot from them before and can better judge their judgment of the movie than the reviews from complete strangers.
- As for the forum idea, the lists work fine for smaller conversations and people have come up with very entertaining and creative lists for multiple purposes, but as soon as a few people start to interact on the same list, it gets confusing rather quickly. And lists tend to disappear rather fast, whereas you can return to a forum thread rather easily even after weeks.
- Editing your comments would be much appreciated, especially for guys like me where English isn't their native language. And like I said, if it works on facebook, it should be possible to implement here as well.
I'd like to see when you follow people, you can get their stream and see what they watched and reviewed but still get the random stream from random members and see what they watched and reviewed, as if you weren't follwing someone at all. If that makes sense.
The Activity Stream needs tidying up. It is the main reason I don't feel like following many people as it is a mish-mash of information.
That's why I don't follow anyone because I like getting the random reviews from everyone on the site instead of just the people I follow.
If there isn't a way to already, is there a way to complain about reviews getting deleted? In the past few days, this site has deleted my reviews of shows like Doctor Who and Tenacious D. I get those are shows, but my reviews of films are getting deleted as well like Kill Bill The Bloody Affair and I'm pretty sure I reviewed Superman 2 but now it's gone. I love this site, but I get annoyed when my reviews get deleted. It's like as soon as I post my reviews, the films are deleted and if the film is still on somehow my review is gone. It feels like...like when you're a kid on a beach and as soon as you finish building a sandcastle after putting so much effort into it and then some dickhead comes and knocks it over.
I don't like having my sandcastle knocked over.
I guess they try to clean up the data they get from TMDb and delete "movies" like "The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy" and just keep the individual movies (plus all the doubles, foreign names etc. and TV shows, too). They don't delete your specific review, they delete the movie your review is from from the database.
But of course it is possible some reviews accidentally get deleted because of changes in the code, the database, the site, whatever. After all, the site is still in beta mode, things like this are unpleasant, but to be expected.
Yeah, I guess you're right. Like you said, they're still in beta so mistakes are expected to, have, and will be made. I guess I can forgive them. It seems like they still try to put a lot of effort into the site and satisfying users and for the most part, it's still a fantastic site.
