A Separation 2011 ★★★★½

Watched Feb 05, 2012

Never have I seen a film quite like it. The themes and tropes (white lies and priorities) have been explored many times before, but I can't think of one handled so simply yet so intricate.

A crime (or not) of passion is the kickstarter to a "twisty" investigation by the participants of the crime itself; as well as those close to them.

The film isn't flawless. Some of the dialogue and situations are frustratingly unbelievable, but for the most part, this is a compelling drama with a dash of thriller elements. Spectacular.

Also - kudos for a clever device to get the audience to stay for the credits. Not one person (out of about 200) left the theater that I could see before the credits ended.
