Rachel Getting Married 2008

Andrew James’s review:
Yes, regular readers of RowThree know my pure lust for this film. I must’ve seen it theatrically five times in 2008 and several more since on DVD. It turned me on immediately to the potential realized by Anne Hathaway and the introduction of Rosemarie DeWitt. The rest of the cast comes together in this natural setting (in camera work, score and acting) drama that slowly unveils layers of complexity and backstory that is unbelievably heartbreaking and tragic. Yet the compassion and love of family shines through brightly even throughout the bitter in-fighting and emotional struggling of all the characters involved. This is compelling, dramatic cinema defined.
A movie that I also like a lot - though obviously not as much as you. But it gets four stars just for Rachel's toast. My nitpick: "Rachel, Rachel, Rachel, Rachel . . . Sidney, Sidney, Sidney, Sidney". For some reason that just grates on me, dude.
some thoughts - this movies really is awesome.

More awkward - Kym's toast or Young Adult baby shower scene? toss-up.
I'm not that big of a fan of Young Adult. That scene is definitely awkward, but in an overblown, Hollywood sort of way. Kym's speech (watched it again this weekend) is so very realistic and true. It hurts.
