Even admitting that I really liked the film and praised it at the time of its release, I railed a bit against it for being one of those "pointless remakes of a great movie that is very recent." But goddammit this is a great great movie. It's definitely among Scorsese's best.

Edge of your seat awesome and everyone involved is so. damned. good...

except Nicholson. The minus half star here is for the Jack factor. He works in a lot of it but whenever he tries to go over the top (impersonating his Joker character at times) it's really jarring, goofy and pull me out of the movie. Jack needed to be reigned in on this one.

Otherwise, (apart from a couple of editing gaffes) damn near a perfect film.
