Expectations were through the roof for this film and it mostly delivers. Henry Cavill is a terrific Superman and it really is an epic film, with fantastic visuals and some breathtaking action. In fact, nearly the whole second half of the film is action set piece after set piece. Tron's not quite as easy to appreciate now, we've seen so much that the effects that were the main selling point of the film in '82 are dated but despite that, it does still stand out and it still looks unique.
The only trouble with the film is that everything is basically there as a vehicle to show off the effects. The story and characters aren't particularly exciting. Still fun and a groundbreaking film though.
Short, violent and to the point, Dredd doesn't mess around. Films like this aren't made much anymore. It's basically a throwback to the action films of the eighties and that makes for a hell of an action packed ride. If you're looking for a brilliant drama then you're not gonna get it here but that is the great thing about it. It doesn't try to be anything that it isn't and it doesn't try and please everyone.

Going into this film, the important thing for me was to go into it with an open mind. I liked the Sam Raimi films (the first two anyway) but that was never gonna stop me from enjoying somebody else's interpretation of the character. Taking that into account, did the film succeed? Absolutely.
