21 Jump Street 2012
I thought this was funny as fuck (They swear unnecessarily all the time). Tatum may play in lots of shit movies I hate, but I actually think he's kind of badass and he pulls off being funny as all hell in this.

Act of Valor 2012
There was a lot less 'MERICA in here than I was expecting, but probably still quite a lot. They used real Seals (apparently) instead of actors and it shows, both in the stifled dialogue and also how in utterly badass the fight sequences are. Some of the best, most realistic (how would I know?) gun sequences I've seen.
They cheated on the terrorists though by using real actors... what a cop out.

Apocalypse Now Redux 2001
Surreal, I can't believe how long I waited to watch this. You literally feel the edge and the madness of the place throughout the whole film. It is insanely long, but worth it. I admittedly thought I was going to be getting into an old school action film, shows what I know. But I still love the expose of madness. I haven’t seen the original cut, but I read how much more awesome this one was meant to be so went for it.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

Beautiful Lies 2010
Saw this at the Lido tonight for a date with the lady. Pretty funny stuff, some of it’s probably a little strange when your watching from a kiwi perspective but I’m sure its just a great Romantic comedy for the french.
Audrey Tautou is as fantastic as ever so if you’re a fan of hers (Amelie anyone?) then you’re sure to enjoy.

BKO: Bangkok Knockout 2010
I'm sorry, I happen to love shitty Thai action movies but this is too severely balls. Before you waste your time on this make sure you've seen some 5 star shitty Thai movies:Chocolate, Ong Bak & Tom Yum Gong would be good starts.
The martial arts is trailing modern Asian cinema and the stunt work is nothing special. For MA nerds the only real notable feature is people actually trained in Tae Kwon Do doing some cool stuff instead of 'Thai destroying bones' action.

Captain America: The First Avenger 2011
The most meh of the marvel franchise to date. Three pieces of awesome:
- The CGI that made Chris Evans a skinny white boy
- Agent Smith as the Red Skull
- Samuel L. JacksonIt was kind of badass having the Howard Stark connection as well.

Children of Men 2006
My expectation were probably too high for this movie; lots of the action is great (and surprisingly shocking). I thought it was a bit slow at time without really spending that slower pace on great characters.
Michael Caine is, as usual, awesome though, wish he had a larger role.

Chronicle 2012
I think I'm really lucky in that I've managed to avoid 90% of 'found footage' cinema, so that angle was if anything novel to me, though may annoy others.
The story itself is excellent and the characters and their transformations are believable and well played.
Plot was original but still played authentically. Some thrilling scenes, and any shortage of budget didn't show in the effects. Loved it.

Cowboys & Aliens 2011
I don't really get it, why wasn't there something interesting about this? Two of my favourite actors in a really bland western sic-fi (aren't they all, really). There's no amazing set-pieces, no cool bits of script, just not much of anything apart from nearly two hours of "i hope this gets good soon"... bizarre.

Death Sentence 2007
I quite like the movies where the action is intense short and sharp... I want to say realistic but it’s not really - A history of violence is my favorite. I think this film kills it as well but with a maybe a few two many tips of the hat to De Niro's 'Taxi Driver’ which though awesome, doesn’t need a remake.
Kevin Bacon fits the role, because everyone knows he’s got a little bit of crazy in him. Crazy is as crazy does, and he does it well.
