The Dead 2010 ★★½

Watched Jun 04, 2012

The broken, shambling, ashen zombies were the only thing that kept my attention through this movie, hence the short review.

  • wow, I enjoy this film a lot, I prefer one of this atmospheric, slow pace zombie films than the quick cut, heavy metal soundtrack ones any day, but that's just my taste I guess..

  • Its not the pace that bothered me, it was the cliche...well everything. The dialogue was just one line after another of typical cheesy crap, which has no place in what should be a serious film. There just wasn't any substance to it. And that scene at the water pump, when they strip their shirts and start bathing in it...now I understand they are in the desert, and in need of water, but that had Zoolander gas fight all over it. Just contrived drivel.

  • umm, I never took the film to be serious, I mean is a zombie film, I am not saying the film was perfect in any way, I had issues with that scene and how someone died in the last act of the film but I did enjoy it ( compare to the crappy tons of zombie films I watched in the past 2 years)

  • Well there are different atmospheres when it comes to the zombie genre. Examples like Romero's original Dead trilogy, and The Walking Dead on AMC have an air of depression, and desperation. That's the feel I think they were going for here, but failed miserably. To me, this falls into the category of just another lame recent zombie movie...except the zombies were awesome.

  • I agree with the Romero remark, I see those more like social/political messages with zombies than a zombie film.
At least we can agree that the zombies in 'The Dead' where awesome!

  • The Romero movies speak more to the way that people in general would or wouldn't be able to handle the situation. Its always these small groups of people stuck somewhere essentially trying to survive and not go crazy. Day is heavy on the military aspect, and showing what kind of effect a disaster like that would have on people in places of authority, so yes there were some cultural and political aspects to that film, but those are the kinds of zombie movies worth watching.

The Dead was just 2 bad actors wandering through the desert like idiots. There was nothing to it. Rammbock, now there's a good recent zombie movie.

For real on the zombies, though. I think they're some of the best I've seen. That first one with the broken leg was fantastic!

  • ok, I bite, I will watch Rammbock.. I will let you know what I think.
