So tell me about your mother...

Movies dealing with psychology very often get things wrong - which isn't unusual for such a complex and volatile area. This makes getting things right all the more delicious, and sometimes even when the director or script kind of fucks things up, some movies are still worth watching because they're well made. This is a list for both those categories.

  • How about Cronenberg's Spider?

  • *gasp* You're right! I completely forgot that one, though I've only seen it once. And it's from a novel by Patrick McGrath who writes great psychological thrillers. Yeah, I'll add Spider now.

  • Can you add comments on what exactly they got wrong? That’d be interesting. (You can do it in the list view.)

  • Good idea. Done :)
Only a few had blatantly wrong information, although I haven't seen some of these movies in years so I'm probably forgetting some stuff - I have a feeling Girl Interrupted and Memento weren't that accurate either.
Everyone, feel free to offer more corrections if there's anything I overlooked.

  • I'm pretty sure Taxi Driver qualifies for this list, maybe James Gunn's Super as well!

  • I did consider putting Taxi Driver here, but I already have that in the list of Serial Killers - although it's kinda atypical for that category, but the psych. development and the eventual "explosion" worked well for the genre, I thought.
And I'm afraid I haven't seen Super yet.

  • I don't think Travis Bickle counts as a serial killer, he just went on a rampage.

  • I think Antichrist would be a good fit.
