Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Ticks 1994
SyFy's director of original programming stalks into the board room, jaw clenched with rage. The creative team winces as one as he slams a weathered VHS tape of Ticks down on the conference table. "This!" he snarls. "This is how you goddamned well do it!" The director turns on his heel and storms out.
After several long, awkward moments, a junior writer breaks the silence. "So, um, does anybody here still have a VCR?"

Seven Psychopaths 2012
Seven Psychopaths is a case of difficult second movie syndrome for director, Martin McDonagh, and whilst it is probably destined for cult status, just as In Bruges was, it is a far less satisfying experience. This is a messy and self-reflexive story about a struggling Irish writer, Marty, and his difficulties with completing his latest script (also called Seven Psychopaths). Throw in the kidnapping of a mob boss’ dog and Marty’s unstable and psychopathic best friend and you’ve got a…

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
I don’t like the Star Trek franchise. I think it only fair I make that clear from the very beginning.
JJ Abrams’ first stab at this never-ending series re-energised the creaky Enterprise crew and delivered an accessible and breezy blockbuster in the process. True Grit 2010
"Time just gets away from us."
Only the Coens. The most authentic western in modern memory, only the Coens could accomplish what they do here and they warrant rewatchability to spare. For one, the Coens are masters of language. Always have been, always will be. The way they go about capturing the Old West linguistics and dialects and transplant them into unique and unusual accents of characters is an absolute treat to experience and in the process, transplants the viewer…

Arachnophobia 1990
This feels like the sort of film that Steven Spielberg and Sam Raimi would come up with if they got drunk together in an airport bar, waiting for a delayed flight. As such, no bad thing.

The Last Stand 2013
If you are of a certain age, like I am, and happened to be a kid and /or a teenager when Arnold Schwarzenegger was at the height of his powers, regularly pumping out high quality action films, then the news that he was coming back to make a proper action film should have excited you a ridiclously exceptional amount.
They do say you should never go back, of course, and in the meantime he did go off and become a…

The Avengers 2012
This just makes me love the film even more.
Even the little things count in the biggest ways.
