Auteur’s review published on Letterboxd:
It didn't take long for this series to surrender all ties to reality, with increasing efforts to outdo itself in the subsequent sequels, trying desperately to be on par with the big boy blockbusters despite its B-movie trappings. But for a while, and for long enough to not completely derail the story by the time it ends, The Transporter keeps things simple and intimate, believably spinning its yarn about a courier of sorts who breaks one of his cherished rules one day when he "looks in the package," which sends his ordinary world spiralling out of control. A little bit of this goes a long way, and once the guns start coming out, and characters are forced to evolve quickly through forced emotional arcs, it ensures the plot will fade from memory in direct proportion soon after the credits roll. But the martial arts is entertaining, Jason Statham is terrific, and it's impossible to not at least live slightly vicariously through his character, Frank Martin.
