I'm worried about Judd Apatow. I LOVED much of his earlier work. 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked up are fantastic. His last two directorial efforts however, This is 40 and Funny People were not only devoid of story, they just weren't very funny either.
This is 40 has moments of great humor and I appreciated the fact that many of the gags played realistically. But, its overly long and meanders - it's boring and nothing really happens. We love…
There is an old story in which a judge is asked to define pornography. His response: "I can't define what is pornography, but I know it when I see it." In that same vein, I can't really explain on paper what makes Life of Pi a masterpiece, but I know it when I see it.
This is possibly the most gorgeous movie I have ever witnessed. If all 3D were this carefully constructed, the extra fee would be more than…
This a film that I liked more after I left the theatre and had a chance to reflect on the experience. It's ambitious and beautiful. It's dense. It's not about anything, it's about everything. I think some people will love this film and others will absolutely hate it, and I can see both points of view. I think I fall into the camp that really dug it. Solid performances abound, and this movie should be seen simply because you have never seen anything like this.
An adequate and sometimes fun film. Stellar creature work outshines a stoic (unlikeable) lead performance. I found myself connecting more with Stanton's digital creations than their human counterparts. That being said, I still enjoyed the spectacle. It's undeserving of the overly negative reviews its receiving. You can do much worse than John Carter.
