The Dark Knight Rises 2012

Watched Jul 20, 2012

There was so much wrong with this movie I don't know where to start. Just a horrible waste of 3 hours and the good will built by the previous two movies.

  • LOL So glad you joined Letterboxd man, and that's not sarcasm. I'm seeing TDKR this weekend.

  • I honestly hope as few people experience the disappointment i felt. Please go forth and prove me tired and jaded and love this movie.

  • Great comment. That's exactly how I feel. Saw it with a dozen friends and they all loved it. I wish I'd had the strength to keep my opinions to myself, for their sakes.

  • Are these friends as equally well versed in the fine art of cinema appreciation?

  • Heh. Thanks for the compliment. :-)

Yes, I saw it with the crew from Letterboxd (plus friends), including Matt Buchanan who came up with the idea for the site and designed the look and feel. He's a movie appreciator of the first order, and a great friend.

I had a brief discussion with him last night about some of the flaws in this film, but I could tell it was hurting him as I uncovered point after point. I quickly realised I had to stop, because I was removing joy from his world, with no gain.

For some people, just believing that a film should be great is enough to convince them that it is. For example, I'm unshakeable in my love for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but in my heart I know that Return of the King is a fantastically dull and over-long movie. I wouldn't enjoy it if someone were to point that out to me, though...

  • Oh man. That's tough, you must have heard so many people complain about the problems of LOTR too.

You said "For some people, just believing that a film should be great is enough to convince them that it is. Perfect. And this is certainly the reason why you and I are in the minority on this one.
