  • This is a very impressive list of films Richard. I have seen just over two/ thirds (68%) . You have done a lot better on International films than I. I Will check out a few more from your top group.

  • Thanks, by the way name is Robert (or Bobby as a nickname) but I do appreciate your comment. It was actually foreign cinema that created my addiction and love for films. Some of the best films you will ever see are foreign and it is a shame that most people will not watch them because they do not want to read subtitles. A suggestion I have to those people is the more foreign films you watch, you will get so use to subtitles that you will no longer realize they are there and be able to watch the film and read the subtitles simultaneously without ever noticing you are doing so. I highly recommend the first 50 films or so in this list, they are the only ones in a definite order. And if you are a beginner to foreign cinema, the best director to start with would be Akira Kurosawa as his are the easiest to digest and have a similar style to western cinema. He is actually the biggest influence on alot of the modern American directors like Spielberg, Scorcese, Coppola, etc.

  • Robert I am so sorry about the name screw-up. Please forgive my mind lapse. I had gone through your whole list which I'm sure took a while on my old laptop. Consequently by the time I finished the list I had forgot who had made it in the first place! :-)
I have seen many foreign films Bobby, but: you are correct in your assumption that subtitles are a bit of a stumbling block.
I have seen many of Kurosawa's films and most of Bergmans.
Thanks for your reply. I am going to look up several of these.
