Oz: The Great and Powerful 2013
Exactly what you expect it to be. Unless you were expecting some Sam Raimi nutso.

Side by Side 2012
Fascinating documentary on the pros and cons of digital technology and the effect that it has had on both the creation and exhibition of movies. Many A-list filmmakers and technicians (and Greta Gerwig) discuss candidly why they do or don't embrace the revolution. A must see for anyone interested in the craft, as well as the art, of film.

Damsels in Distress 2012
Just awful. Do not see this film. Surprise film at LFF 2011 and not the good kind of surprise, more the being shat on by a pigeon sort of surprise.

X-Men: First Class 2011
Gets so much right that it's a shame when the awkward continuity with the other films drags it down. A full-on reboot would have been better, and helped with the crappy mutant roster they were left with here (seriously, tornado boy and bug girl are hardly essential parts of X-Men lore, and they don't do much with Banshee or Havoc either). Still, Fass, McEvoy and Lawrence are good enough and the mix of superhero epic, Bond film and political thriller are handled well enough to excuse minor niggles. Well, except the Take That song.
