An Almost Complete List of Disney's Theatrical Films

(Last Updated: 11 October 2014)

In early 1923, Kansas City, Missouri animator Walt Disney created a short film entitled Alice's Wonderland, which featured child actress Virginia Davis interacting with animated characters. Film distributor Margaret J. Winkler contacted Disney with plans to distribute a whole series of Alice Comedies based upon Alice's Wonderland. The contract signed, Walt and his brother Roy Disney moved to Los Angeles. On October 16, 1923, they officially set up shop in their uncle Robert Disney's garage, marking the beginning of the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio.

This is a complete list of feature-length films produced and distributed by Walt Disney Productions/Walt Disney Pictures. This includes both their live-action and animated film output. Some but not all upcoming films are also included in this list.

  • "You've watched 28%"
    This saddens me slightly.

  • 23%
I wouldn't really know where to begin.

  • Good job with this list! The Littlest Outlaw is live now. (I've added it to TMDb for my horse list.)

  • added "Amy" to TMDb

  • I've only watched 35%. That really does surprise me.

  • 37% and surprised as well. It's all that live-action stuff throwin' off my game.

  • 41%. wow, probably comes from growing up in the 90s and watching almost every Disney film released that decade.

  • 25% for me. I don't want to see everyone, but I would like to see some more of the early live action animal pictures.

  • 18%. Really puts the vastness of Disney's studio power into perspective.

  • I'm at 44%, though I expect to be at or very close to 50% by year's end. I just watched The Ugly Dashund today, in fact.

And if it makes anyone feel better, the unreleased movies at the end of the list throw all of our percentages off one or two points.

  • I've seen 36%. Though there's some I definitely do not want to see, I'm interested in watching more of the live-action films Walt made. Excellent effort!

  • Missing Swiss Family Robinson (1960)

  • Fantastic list fella :-0 love it

  • Thanks again for keeping up this list - an exhaustive list here on Letterboxd that I return to for inspiration for titles to watch.

An update: My viewing of Bears (2014) today puts me at 50% watched on this list, including the unreleased movies at the end of the list; my prediction from 9 months ago that I'd be close to 50% at year's end came to pass after all.

  • Wondering why you've included all the Pixar films before they're acquisition of the company, but you haven't included any of MCU films?

  • As a possible preemptive answer for the poster. Pixar movies were always distributed by Disney, even before the acquisition. Marvel movies were not. And some licenses still aren't (Fantastic Four, Spiderman, X-Men, etc)

However, I do agree -- the Marvel movies distributed by Disney should be included.

  • I agree - The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ulton, Ant-Man and the rest of the upcoming Marvel Studios slate are and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios.

To further the point, Lucasfilm and PIXAR's movies are included on this list, and they are running the same way Marvel's movies are, so why not include the Marvel movies here?

And the current official name is Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Look that up on Wikipedia, Box Office Mojo or elsewhere and you will see that the Marvel Studios movies are included on their tallys of the studio's movies.
