Woody Allen is a relatively new venture for me, even as a cinephile, which i know is sacrelig to most cinephiles but nothing about his trailers ever drew me (which I know makes me a sucker for marketing). So, it's no surprise to me that the trailer for Midnight in Paris did nothing to pique my curiosity, even after the hubub. I felt like Woody Allen was the independent filmmaker's Speilberg: Overrated, Undertalented, Over-Awarded, Pretentious. Granted I was being a…

My concern, which I feel was shared by many, was that this trip into middle earth couldn't possibly measure up to the absolute masterpiece that is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy; that somehow this one would feel...different...less epic...less...awesome. I love Richard Kelly and I hate this film. A movie has to make SOME kind of sense and where he usually balances perfectly between physical, spiritual, scientific and supernatural, he overreaches into realms where we can't seen in; where characters and plot points are meaningless and unintelligible. You can say you'll find signal in the static, but at the end of the day, it's more likely that you'll be seeing things that aren't there.
