Blair Russell’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is a movie I've known about for awhile it wasn't until tonight that I finally watched this tale of an evil clan attacking a village and stealing the sister of our hero, which allows him to turn from a drunken lout who has longstanding issues due to the past to an admirable sort who bravely did battle against plenty of tough dudes.
But, the villagers also do some cool and heroic things and heck, even some of the villains do some badass things, which is why I called them "tough dudes" overall. Point is, this movie was always a good time for me from beginning to end. I heard complaints that the first half was "dull" and I don't get that at all. You get to see the heels do some pretty bad stuff and when people try to get revenge against them, it's sweet sweet bliss.
Besides how it goes against cliches at times (to echo what was said before by others), it's an always interesting story and it's full of action sequences (whether it's with bow & arrows or it's with something else, like swords) that are not what you commonly seen and it was filmed and scored well; it wasn't always typical but it fit the images.
I am glad I finally viewed this via Netflix Instant.
