The Five-Year Engagement 2012

Brandon Nowalk’s review:
Light on laughs, insight, and recognizable human behavior. Chris Pratt and Alison Brie are great, Mimi Kennedy needs to join the cast of Veep stat, and even the leads are capable. The ending is pure fairy tale, which TV rom-coms (and The Five-Year Engagement is nothing if not How I Met Your Mother only bigger) are arguably heavy on these days but which works nonetheless. But it's nothing special, and I have no idea what was funny about half the comedy. The main problem is the Apatow crew think they're inventing the wheel. Leo McCarey did all this in 90 minutes. The Five-Year Engagement ain't that important.
"Liking" this review for the line "Leo McCarey did all this in 90 minutes." Combines McCarey love with a pretty trenchant indictment of the Apatow clan comedies.
