  • Star Trek Into Darkness 2013

    ★★★★★ Watched 11 May, 2013 3

    A sequel that doesn't fail,now that's a rare treat.
JJ does another fantastic job with a great story, cast, effects and full blown non stop action.
So many twists and turns that I cannot place as they contain spoilers but they are all superb tiny surprises.
Everything was enjoyable to view and the final climax was breath taking at times, especially in 3D.
Benedict Cumberbatch was superb as the villain and he certainly did wipe out a few old Trekky enemies.:)
    Now…

  • Iron Man 3 2013

    ★★★½ Watched 12 May, 2013

Too much Tony Stark, not enough Iron Man but overall it beats the living hell out of Iron Man 2.
Some nice tiny touches especially the Anxiety attacks Tony experiences.
I thought Ben Kingsley's role was comical but I felt he was wasted as his acting ability is fantastic. He would of played a great villain.:-(
The attack on Tony Stark's home and the rescue on Air-Force one were both breath taking and the final climax wereexcellent.
    It's the first…

  • The Place Beyond the Pines 2013

    ★★★★½ Watched 04 May, 2013 10

What a great treat for 2013 as I wasn't expecting it to be this good.
Now and again a film doesn't need huge promotion or tons of trailers to get you interested. It's got to be a good film for the film fans as the word gets spread around quickly. Again kudos to Letterboxd and everybody's reviews for making me notice this.
This film is divided into three parts which twists and turns into all sorts of shocks. By the…

  • Welcome to the Punch 2013

    ★★★½ Watched 05 Apr, 2013

Very stylish and action packed with a great cast at the helm.
This is what 'The Sweeney' tried to do but failed.
My advice would be for you readers to watch this one and avoid the above.
This shows that us British can do a good job of action packed thrillers too without too many explosions but plenty of twists and turns.
I kept thinking it was Paddy Constantine who was played Dean Warns all the way through but it…

  • The Sweeney 2013

    ★★★½ Watched 01 Jan, 2013

Ray Winstone must of been in his element coming back to shoot first, ask questions later.
Great entertainment with a solid shoot out and car chase.

  • A Good Day to Die Hard 2013

    ½ Watched 16 May, 2013 9

I think Fox made two mistakes.
1.They hired the wrong director. (John McTiernan is the man who can make a real Die Hard movie, not John Moore).
2.There must of been a mix up with the script's and by the time they realised this it was too late.

I cannot believe they have finally ruined a great franchise. Ok Die Hard 4.0 was not bad and it did have some over the top moments but this was just terrible.
    This…

  • Mama 2013

    ★★ Watched 20 Apr, 2013 2

There was only two reasons I wanted to see this....
1.Guillermo Del Toro's name was tagged as executive producer.
2.Did really well in the opening screenings.

Again, Hollywood brings out the same old stuff that I have seen over and over again.
The direction was pretty well handled and I think Del Toro's help was involved with the dream sequence.
The sound was top notch but this didn't make me jump at all, in fact the only reaction it got…

  • The Last Stand 2013

    ★★ Watched 27 Apr, 2013

After semi re-tiring from acting Arnold decided to act as the governor for San Fran. After feeling tired of this job he decided to hang his suit up and move back into acting and play a town sheriff.

Ten years since Arnold made T3 his huge fan club have been waiting for his big comeback.
Let alone waiting for 10 years I had to wait for 1 hour and 13mins till Arnold started kicking ass again in this big mesh.…

  • Gangster Squad 2013

    ★★ Watched 19 Apr, 2013 10

This is another example that the trailer tricks movie fans into thinking this is going to be the next 'Goodfellas'.
Well, that's what I expected it to be and can totally understand why this has received bad reviews.
Ok,this is based on real events but the way this has been made doesn't take it seriously, which is the problem. The violence is too comical and (dare I say it) the acting is so wooden I felt this was more like…

  • Django Unchained 2012

    ★★★★★ Watched 06 Jan, 2013 7

QT has done it again for me.
Already knowing that the genius is a big fan of the old westerns, I knew this would not be failure.
Rooting, tooting and shooting all the way through with some fantastic dialogue that keeps you compelled for 2 and a half hours.
I will eat my hat if DiCaprio doesn't get a golden Oscar for this, as he fully deserves to have one now.(update:it was tough to chew)
In fact the whole cast deserves…

  • Les Misérables 2012

    ★★★★ Watched 15 Jan, 2013

I saw the musical on stage way back in the late 90's and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you haven't seen the theatre show I recommend you see it first than this film.
The film has some amazing set pieces and it was odd watching Maximus,Wolverine and Selina singing out their fights through out.
The whole entire film has no dialogue so if your not enjoying watching this, rest your eyes and enjoy the music.
Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman both have…

  • Jack Reacher 2012

    Watched 05 May, 2013

Oh my god, where do I start......
This film was sooooooooooooo boring and bland.
30mins within and the boredom was kicking in.
Having a name as Jack Reacher, I bet he couldn't reach anything from the 3rd shelf upwards.
The problem I had with it was I just couldn't get over the fact it was Tom Cruise. This should have been someone else to play as JR, which probably would have made me be more interested and care about the…
