Just a fantastically well-balanced multi-superhero blockbuster. Whedon had to juggle all the different established characters as well as introduce new ones, start and leave with a story that both fed into other films and stood on its own, and make the whole thing watchable. It doesn't aim for profundity in the same was as Nolan's Batman films, but it doesn't have to.
