OMFG, this movie is so terrible I think it gave me a brain tumor. It manages to mangle almost every aspect of it's execution and when your best performance by far comes from an actor that doesn't technically exist - the china girl -then you've done something wrong.

Kudos to whomever did the voice work for her though.

Everyone involved in this film should be ashamed of themselves. In the words of Zoidberg "You're movie is bad and you should feel bad!".

An emotionally confusing film. Beautifully animated, I can't help but feel that they wasted a lot of the emotional potential by trying to tell the story within a film rather that even a short (13 episode) series - it denies the characters the development they require.

The ending is also disappointing... you'll know what I mean.

Holy shit, what just happened?

Watching Redline with subtitles is like trying to speed read a paper on the theory of thermodynamics as it applied to nuclear fusion while reversing a truck at 80 mph into a tornado.

But don't let that deter you - because though the story plays out more like an episode from the middle of a series you've never seen the rest of, it is full to burst with classic over the top late 80's anime retro charm and A grade production values. It's no classic, but as a watch once spectacle - it's 100% awesome.

Rise is a poster-child of form over function; while very pretty, it lacks almost every other aspect needed for it to be a good film. In order to gloss over the glaring plot holes and forgive the complete lunacy of most of the character decisions if doesn't so much require suspension of disbelief, but a self induced lobotomy.
