Life Cycles 2010
On the upside, Life Cycles does make me want to grab a bike and hit the trail, but the film lacks several significant elements that help me to connect with what's onscreen. The Kids Are All Right 2010
Thanks to Cholodenko, we can now chalk up The Kids Are All Right with the dozen other films that portray a lesbian protagonist who sleeps with a straight man, clearly pandering to the popular convention that gay women secretly long for men. Pan's Labyrinth 2006
Guillermo del Toro has crafted a beautifully haunting film. I can't tell if Pan's Labyrinth is a fantasy film with political underpinnings or a political film wrapped in a fantastic skin, but the seamless integration of these two very different concepts is well executed. Not to mention, images of the Pale Man (played by Doug Jones) will forever haunt my imagination.
