John Dies at the End 2013
All the geeky elements that my Dungeons & Dragons group will thoroughly enjoy. I have no doubt that this is or will become a cult classic, and the movie has no doubt either. That's the problem! I want more out of my movies than "cool" plot devices and endlessly "witty" dialog.

Oblivion 2013
It's light, but also classic style sci-fi. In other words, it doesn't quite feel like "summer blockbuster" fare. Heck, it's superior to many of the hundred million dollar movies you'll see and it looks better too. You might notice a few plot holes; but, just patch them up with some glue, a few nails, and some suspension of disbelief.

Requiem for a Dream 2000
The title says it all: You know from the first moment that things aren't going to turn out well; but you can't help but stare, horrified, once things get moving. Requiem is filled to the brim with technical creativity, and every bit of style supports the substance. Still, with so much going on, it's easy to overlook the stunning performances led by Ellen Burstyn (in her Oscar nominated role). I know Requiem is on a lot of "Great Films I'll Never Watch Again" lists, but you owe it to yourself to see it at least the once.
