This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
You should have let me sleep.
-John HarrisonJ.J. Abrams brings us the sequel to his successful 2009 prequel/reboot/re-imaging of Star Trek that is flashier, louder and more energetic then it's predecessor with the promise of also being smarter but simply falters in the third act of the film. I saw the film last night and walked out of the theater annoyed by it's final act while I couldn't decide if it was the Star Trek fan in me that…

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
I don’t like the Star Trek franchise. I think it only fair I make that clear from the very beginning.
JJ Abrams’ first stab at this never-ending series re-energised the creaky Enterprise crew and delivered an accessible and breezy blockbuster in the process. This bigger, darker (well it is in the title after all) sequel is a natural progression delivering the same frenetic action, sparkling chemistry and dubious plotting as we have come to expect from practically every Abrams production.…

Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1975
Had to show this to my brother so that he would spend the next seven years of his life quoting it consistently.

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier 1989
A first time watch, at least all the way through.
Given the reputation this has had over the years, I was surprised I enjoyed this as much as I did. While Sybok is a potentially interesting villain, his motivations for doing things, and how the hell his powers work, are somewhat underwritten, Shatner's having such a big hand in this one brings about some pretty dodgy scenes and it's also fair to say that production value is low here.
However,…

Timecrimes 2007
Los cronocrímenes
A man travels back in time by just an hour, and starts a chain of events that become increasingly complicated. This film explores the idea of the time travel paradox well and kept my interest as the plot became increasingly complex. I got to the end of the film and I had that very satisfying feeling that made me think "I need to watch this again" and didn't mind that idea! -
Teen Wolf 1985
Moral of the story: athletic ability=human value.
Man, I’m starting to love werewolf movies. The concept of lycanthropy is both stupid and awesome at the same time. It has so much potential for comedy, horror, and even romance. And maybe porn, who knows.
TEEN WOLF is just a fun movie. It’s entertaining, well-acted, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt. Sure, the whole premise is clinically retarded and boy does that high school have a desensitized student body, but hey, fun is fun.…

Requiem for a Dream 2000
This film marks, to date, the only time I have ever been left in stunned silence during the end credits. Emotionally draining, soul destroying and yet beautiful, well acted and genuinely thought provoking - a depressing masterpiece. And that soundtrack, just wow.
Makes Trainspotting look like a light-hearted comedy at times.

Flight of the Navigator 1986
A childhood favourite that although terribly average still inspires repeat watches. Compliance!

The Curse of the Jade Scorpion 2001
Even the "worst" Woody Allen films are much better than your average movie. I'd watch this every day before I had to watch some cheesy paint by numbers popcorn drama aimed at Middle America. The same complaints I have about this film are the same that Allen had himself...that he miscast himself in the lead role! I didn't mind it that much because it made some of the gags funnier; However I found it hard to believe that his character…

A Nightmare on Elm Street 1984
I want to give it 3½ stars, but I don't think I will.
I didn't miss the humour in this film, but I don't think it fitted in one bit. I also didn't miss how they just assumed too much right from the start, "I'm having bad dreams! AND THEY'RE GOING TO KILL ME!" I would have thought she was crazy too.
I also didn't miss how everyone went into super-insane-overacting-mode at every chance they got (sorry Johnny :( lub…
