The Great Gatsby 2013
Superficial but commendable; I doubt there'll ever be a better adaptation of the book than this one.

The Liability 2012
Somehow the best of the year so far, although I had to wrangle my head around a finale/epilogue which seemed to kill the mood of the film. It's still a superbly handled 80-minute thriller that flies by, and isn't afraid to leave questions unanswered. Extra points for O'Connell's charm and comic timing, as well as Roth's effortless cool.

With a script as cavalier with logic as this one, and with a director as shameless in his compulsion to sacrifice good taste for empty sensation, the result is an unsavory, unredeemable mess.

The courtship…
