Yi Yi 2000 ★★★★★

Watched Mar 02, 2012

Edward Yang's portrait of a family is a work of intense humanism and lyrical beauty that celebrates ordinary life itself. In theme it's similar to the work of Japanese master Yasujiro Ozu but Yi Yi seems to be a lot more relevant to life today than any of the entries in Ozu's oeuvre. Yi Yi also showcases the terrific, masterful direction of Taiwanese director Edward Yang (who sadly died in 2007) with stylistic shots containing a visual poetry that shows the beauty of life - whether chaotic or harmonic.
