Went in expecting to be underhwhelmed based on the early reviews, and I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining this was. On the scale of Pixar films, it falls somewhere short of the heights of Up and Toy Story 3, but it's miles above the Cars films. Excellent voice work by Kelly MacDonald, Emma Thompson, and Billy Connolly carries the film, and the plot is predictable, but zippy and slapsticky enough to keep you from dwelling on how expected most of the plot twists are. The animation is, as always, completely spectacular. It is nice to see Pixar create a new princess story out of whole cloth, even if it is ultimately another Disney Princess story (though notably one that does not play by the usual conventions of Disney Princess romances.) Definitely worth seeing if you have the opportunity.
