Whimsy abounds, there is no hiding Anderson's trademark in this film. The are gags are un-funny and the characters a little twee but the delivery is so droll it holds no expectation of humour. What is sincere is the delicate, almost breathless, handling of 12 year old Suzy and Sam's romance. Sweet and pure amongst the bumbling chaos of an approaching storm, a middle-aged affair, and mercenary scouts. Charming.
