Craig Duffy’s review:
Much more dramatic and emotional than all other Leone films. Perhaps a little too slavish to historical accuracy. I know he was working on this film for 10 years and had done all sorts of research, but it felt like he had a need to show IT ALL. A film should be about the characters and the period details should just wash over the audience. Though the characters and actors are all amazing and complex, it feels as if they are having to compete with the art direction for attention. Overall though, I did enjoy it.
