Charlie Derry’s review:
My favourite instalment to Nolan's Batman trilogy, and that's largely because of Heath Ledger as The Joker. He's got to be one of the best superhero villains to date, and it undeniably Ledger at his best, which is sad with it being the last film he did. Nolan's first Batman film was fantastic but this is even better, I feel. The casting is a strong quality of Nolan's trilogy and it makes a surprising improvement here (Aaron Eackhart definitely deserves a mention!), with each of them suiting their roles perfectly and giving mesmerising performances. The action is brilliant, the technology and visual effects are impressive, but I think the best thing about this instalment is the way Nolan develops the characters, as you become deeply invested in each of them; even The Joker becomes likeable at times and manages to provoke some sympathy as his actions are given reason and his character some brilliant dialogue.
