Travis Lytle’s review:
Two or three minutes into the "The Amazing Spider-Man," I shifted in my seat, worried that the film was about to make no connection with me whatsoever. My shifting was for not as "The Amazing Spider-Man" is an excellent superhero film. Providing a personal, emotionally resonant, and somewhat low-key origin to the beloved-by-many character, the film is solidly-crafted, ideally-cast, exhilarating, and moving. Though it slips into well-worn, super hero operatics in its final act, this film, with its heart of a quieter film and its soul of a monster movie, is an undeniable pleasure.
TOTALLY agree.
Agreed! I think the casting really lifted this film up for me and made it so much more enjoyable to watch.
Thank you, Adam and Daryl!
Elizabeth, I'm still surprised at how much the casting works. Garfield is gawky and gangly: physically ideal for the role. Plus, he turns Peter Parker and Spider-Man into two individual characters, which I loved. Sheen, Leary, Watson, Field...all great.
I'm an idiot. I meant STONE, not Watson. Though, I'm sure Emma Watson would have been good in this too.
I've seen so many different opinions on this movie, ranging from 2 stars to five.
Can't wait to go see it! :3
I think Garfield's love of the character really shines through, he's just so damn likeable. And yes, Stone is good :)
Claire, I've seen those opinions too. The twitter bloggers I follow are decidedly mixed, but I couldn't help but love it. I look forward to reading your thoughts.
Elizabeth, I liked the chemistry between Stone and Garfield. Their last moment together in the film (I won't be specific in order to avoid spoliers) was priceless!
Very eloquent and to the point. I loved this movie, and I don't tolerate comparisons to the 'originals' so this is perfect. This is a new movie, a new Spidey, and a wonderful dynamic. Bravo.
Thanks, Nate. I guess I understand when people bring up Raimi's trilogy in their reviews, but I wanted to stay away from that. This film deserves to be treated on its own terms!
Can't say I loved it but it was fun, on par with Raimi's first. And if they're gonna make a sequel, I'll be there. I'm pretty sure they will, it's made a shit-ton of moneys.
Even though I don't think this could be topped, I'd be there too!
