The Actors' 25: The five best performances from my five favorite actors
As part five in a series celebrating filmmakers, here are the five best performances, in my estimation, from my five favorite actors. The films are ranked (within their respective rows); the actors are not.
Honorable mention: Cruise, Downey, Ford, Gibson, Mortensen, Peck, Pitt, Quaid (Dennis), Stewart.
Funny, I was just thinking about doing a list like this now and here is your list! I'm still going to do one for myself and this is a solid list of actors/films by the way.
Thanks! I think I'm going to have to expand it soon to ten actors.
Interesting that you picked the bourne supremacy out of the trilogy, what part of his performance in that film sticks out over the other two?
Good question, Murray. The fact that Bourne is at peace in part of the film (before he loses Marie) means that Damon has to produce more range. Going from at-peace Bourne to at-war Bourne shows more acting skill than spending the entire film in at-war mode...to me anyway. I hope that makes sense.
@Travis that makes perfect sense! I totally understand your choice, its shows his diversity.
Hugh Jackman's performance in The Fountain is vastly underrated. Glad to see him getting some cred here!
Thanks! Jackman has the chops; I love when he actually gets to use them.
Good to see another Kevin Costner fan here on Letterboxd. 'A Perfect World' is probably my personal favorite.
You too, Richard? Good to hear! I haven't seen "A Perfect World" in many years, but that is a great one.
Oh yeah, I love Kevin Costner. Always have.
I wanted to add him to my directors list too, but I'll wait until he's directed five features.
Same here. I was hoping (and still am) he would do that 'A Little War of Our Own'. A Western set during WWII, I believe it was.
I wasn't aware of that one, Richard, but it sounds like it would be in his wheelhouse. I'm looking forward to seeing Costner, however briefly, in "Man of Steel."
Cool idea!
Thank you! I did a handful of these lists last summer. Feel free to peruse them all.
