As part seven in a series celebrating filmmakers, here are the five best performances, in my estimation, from my five favorite actresses. The films are ranked (within their respective rows); the actresses are not.
Honorable mention: Bergman, Blanchett, Gardner, Mirren, Russell, Stone.

I've been meaning to do this for awhile now, but I still need to see a few films from some of my favorites like Tilda Swinton and Teri Garr. I'd feel bad if I did a fav actress list without them.
Thanks! I was worried you'd reject it over my love for Rachel McAdams. Seriously though, I know what you mean about having to see more films. For instance, I'm really enjoying Jessica Chastain's work, but she hasn't been in a lot of films yet; and some of these women have longer bodies-of-work, but I just haven't seen more than six or seven of their films. Still, I know who I like!
Garr and Swinton are good picks, by the way.
Thanks, now I just need to see more of their films! I completely understand your love for McAdams by the way. Along with that smile that just makes me weak at the knees, she's a great actress; better than most people give her credit for. She was especially brilliant in Red Eye if you haven't seen it.
"Red Eye" was when she started to emerge as somebody other than the mean girl from "Mean Girls" for me. Up to that, I was worried she'd just be another Lohan clone. I'm glad that McAdams, and Amanda Seyfried, have made careers for themselves.
Have you seen Slings and Arrows? It's a Canadian show that I LOVE. It also happens to have Rachel McAdams in the first season, and she has one scene that almost brought me to tears, she was so good (and Sarah Polley is also in the third season).
I haven't, but I'll have to look into it. I like Sarah Polley too!
It's on Instant, if that helps. I have major feels about that show. Might have to rewatch soon...

Love seeing recognition for House of Sand and Fog. Great performances. Such an incredibly under-rated movie. The book is awesome, as well.
