This is one of my favorite movies of all time for so many reasons. It's deliciously wicked in so many senses. It was birthed from Crawford and Davis' bitter rivalry and they have such dynamic chemistry on screen because of it. If you want to learn the incredible story behind all of this, please watch Bette and Joan: Blind Ambition. It gives you so much information and it made me love the movie so so so much more.
Davis' portrayal of Baby Jane Hudson is by far one of my favorite roles ever played by anyone. She plays her so convincingly, you forget that this woman isn't real. Hell, the way Davis does her own makeup is just scary enough that you can't help but be invested in this terrifying romp. She very much deserved that Oscar, but we all know how that would end up for her.
Not to mention that this is a camp cult classic. The gays ate this shit up in one of the first rival fanbases. Rather like a much better constructed sixties version of Freddy Vs. Jason. I really enjoy that this was really blurred that there really was no win or lose, and we find out that both sisters were very much to blame for each other's awful predicaments.
