Thoroughly pleasant. It helps that Allen gives all us sophisticated art and literary buffs a delightful sense of smugness when we see the various artists and writers 'oh yes, Matisse, what a gas to see him there, I just love his expressive use of colour, hmm'.

This was my first experience of Les Mis in any form, never saw the musical or read the book and have heard very little about the storyline so it was all brand new to me. I can see why it is a classic, it features some great musical elements and the storyline is suitably epic. Hugh Jackman is good and I enjoyed Russell Crowe though I know that people with a better frame of reference then me thought he was weak. Anne Hathaway is the real scene stealer though.
