Lady Vengeance 2005 ★★★★

Another fantastic film by Chan Wook Park, Lady Vengence, like in similar films by Park, takes us down the road of revenge surrounding the past, guiding the viewer through time and place in a journey through vengence, guilt and redemption.

The film follows the protagonist (Geum-ja Lee) in the events surrounding a number of child kidnappings in which the plot is based. Characters from Lee's past are introduced seamlessly into the storyline - if not sometimes erratically - which shape our understanding of the main character, as well as provide an insight into the very nature of revenge.

Park explores both sides of the coin in Lady Vengence, often discreetly blending good with evil, heaven with hell and positive with negative which give a window into the antagonism tearing her apart. Truly a thought-provoking film which boldly delves into taboo aspects of society many directors would avoid.
