To be frank, while I thought Denzel fit into the role like a glove, the antagonists were numbingly uninteresting and no one was a match for his badassery. Therefore, the story lacked surprise for me and it simply felt predictible around every corner. I still like it, hence the 3 1/2 and most of that goes to Denzel.
You make a good point about the antagonists, though the faceless-ness of the baddies works for me; especially given the pacing of the film. In order for the antagonists to be fully fleshed out, the bonding scenes between Creasy and Peta would have to take a hit, which is something I do not abide. Give me uninteresting bad guys any day if it means more scenes of Denzel Washington training Dakota Fanning how to swim.
"I wish...you had...more time" to write a review, as you need to explain how this masterpiece gets a three and a half.
