    Poltergeist not only works as a terrifying ghost story but as a time capsule of early 80s sensibilities, and as the fossilized record of the tensions between its producer, Steven Spielberg and its nominal director, the exquisite Tobe Hooper.

Hardy's performance is enjoyably ham-fisted, but the fact that this is a true story can't keep us from wondering if something else interesting might happen. Unfortunately, we get cage match after cage match, well after the spectacle of watching Bronson strip down (and paint up) his body for the beat down has lost its edge.
