Giallo - The art of thrilling
This list contains classic stories from Italy about black gloved murderers but as well some other movies from europe in the tradition of this filone.
The fan of the italian giallo will probably appreciate them as well ;-)
The books "Blood & black lace" , "Giallo - Die Farbe des Todes", "Giallo & Thrilling all'italiana", "Spaghetti Nightmares" and "Das wilde Auge" were helpful tools for the search of hidden gems.
Fantastic list.
Yeah, that's a totally unsane list. We should all post our pecentage watched. Mine is 12% and that was more than I expected.
Thx, it took years to get and watch about 90%, keep the rest coming :-)
Indeed a master list! I'm at 18%
So, I love the bloody ones. Can you recommend some of the little less known ones?
mhhh, that's really hard to say, because i like almost all of them ;-), a lesser known and gory one could be "Crimes of the black cat" (shot in Kopenhagen)
Just in case you haven't heard, Camera obscura will release "Spirits of death" in 2013, i enjoyed that one a lot.
The Argento's, Martino's, Lenzi's and of course Fulci's movies are a good starting point for a travel into the yellow world.
A very underrated director is in my opinion Pupi Avati...
I will get that Camera Obscura for sure then cause I sell those at my webstore :) (also stoked about the Cry of the prostitute news!)
I will look out for Crimes of the black cat. Most of what I've seen I've enjoyed and that's indeed most of the Argento, Martino and Fulci stuff.
And I must say that even the lesser or bad ones are still more enjoyable that bad slashers/horror movies.
Nice to see you've included Amsterdamned :)
Cry of the prosititute yeah, milk please :-)
Saw Amsterdamned in the heyday of german satelite tv in the early 90s and enjoyed it a lot. Since then Amsterdam is on the place to visit list ;-)
Should watch that movie again, is there a cool release in the netherlands?
Not really, only cheap bare boned dvd's. But there is a nice UK DVD on Nouveaux Pictures, but I think that one has gone OOP. And Shameless just released it also. (and I know there is a HD version available somewhere on the net, don't have it though)
The devil has seven faces is also set in Amsterdam by the way, but you've probably seen that.
incredible list, really need to get some of the more obscure stuff.
