Excellent comedy horror which has as much laughs as it does tension. Great performances all round and some fantastic comic timing. It's just been revealed recently that this being remade for the US (WTF?) It's a New Zealand film it's not bloody Japanese! Let's hope the US version is as much of a screw up as the Old Boy remake was. Anyway check this one out, it's a little cracker.
Ok first things first, I've given this film 5 stars despite it being one of the most inept films I've ever seen. The story is awful, the acting is terrible, the dubbing is a joke and yet it's endlessly quotable, terribly dated, sexist, racist and fucking hilarious.
I would not recommend you buy this film but as the full movie is on YouTube I recommend you all give it a go!
A film that makes jazz watchable is quite an achievement and yet Whiplash makes it look easy. An engaging story with fantastic performances all round makes this a real audio and visual treat. Jazz has a tendency for overlong self indulgent solos yet this is actually one of this films strengths. it's only January and we already have a film of the year candidate - remarkable!
Ok so let's get this out the way first - yes this is James Gandolfinis final film before he sadly died and he gives a solid final turn. The Drop however is not his film, it's Tom Hardy's who gives a remarkable performance in a film that is tightly directed with an emotional, tense, funny and rewarding script. It's not a big story but the film and the performances are so good I guarantee you'll be gripped from start to finish.
