The Debt 2010 ★★★★½

I wish more of today’s movies had the same amount as intelligence as this one. Intensely-plotted and featuring fine performances from an A-list cast (particularly Jessica Chastain), The Debt is a smart and utterly engrossing espionage thriller that also wrestles with some pretty weighty subject matter, demonstrating that justice cannot truly be served without the truth to support it. This isn’t a particularly enjoyable film, but it is an engaging one, and well worth thinking about. Highly recommended.

Rated R for Some violence and language. Iffy for age 16.
