I have a soft spot for Verhoeven's sense of trash. I feel like he knows exactly what he's doing, and it's just a matter of whether or not you accept or reject it. It's basically just another slasher film, but it gets the job done, the effects are nice, and considering that in 2012 I know all of these actors a lot better from other works, it brings out another level of enjoyment it may not have had in 2000. Seing Josh Brolin in a trashy slasher flick? I'm into it. Shue also does well in this stuff as she did in Piranha 3D. And I'm always up for Bacon in sleazy-mode.
I think it's better than its reputation. Not fantastic but fun.
