List by Corey Pierce
Soundtrack is better or more popular than the movie.
List entries do not necessarily mean the movie sucks. In a few cases I love the movie more (hence the "more popular" option). In some cases it's a matter of comparison/preference
*This is for films with song soundtracks, not scores, in which case the list would be a lot longer and maybe less random/weird. For the record, my first entry in such a list including score would be Sherlock Holmes. I am aware that in a few cases here there is a fine line between score/soundtrack
how about 'Empire Records'?
awesome list BTW :)
There were many I considered, but I either like the movie better, or think they are about the same in popularity. So... Dazed and Confused, Lost in Translation, Empire Records... I dunno about putting those in there. Admitting that the O Brother Where Art Thou and Magnolia soundtracks are more popular was tough enough :P
Dazed and Confused you should reconsider, the film and the soundtrack work so perfectly together, I;am a little bias, Dazed and Confused is one of my all time favorites. :)
Cocktail, some quality there, or probably not... Going to rewatch on blu to jog memory
Tron Legacy?
I concur
That one is that fine line between score and soundtrack, but given the nature of Daft Punk's music, I will go with it.
Grafitti Bridge and Purple Rain deserve a spot here.
How's about Maximum Overdrive? It's basically a 90 minute AC/DC video with the soundtrack being the Who Made Who album. I bet 90% of the people who own the album don't even know it's a soundtrack for a movie.
It's been a long time since I've seen Above The Rim, but isn't "Regulate" the ONLY song from the soundtrack that appears in the movie?
Drive?
The Bodyguard?
Hack the Planet! Hackers has possibly the most quintessential 90s soundtrack.
Added a few suggestions. I dont know about Drive's soundtrack being better OR more popular. Deliverance, Reservoir Dogs, etc - i think these are movies with just famous uses of a specific piece of music and don't fit what I'm going for with this list. Those pieces of music became famous because of how they were used in the film, but in this list it's a matter of the music being more popular on its own merits, or the movie just being so far worse.
Moonwalker? I know BAD is an album, not a soundtrack, though.
Miami Vice. Michael Mann always delivers on the soundtrack.
