The Adventures of Tintin 2011 ★★★½

Watched Jan 02, 2012

I haven't read the comics so I can't speak to that level of knowledge, but I found myself enjoying the film much more than I expected. The CG was impressive (oddly absent of the uncanny valley issues that plagued The Polar Express, perhaps due to the cartoonish faces on realistic bodies), and the action sequences were rather good.

At the same time, some parts were a bit flaky for me. Tintin's interest in the Unicorn model lacked motivation—save for perhaps the desires of a young boy's imagination— thus setting a weak foundation for the story. Additionally, the dialogue and actions of Captain Haddock and Thomson and Thompson were a bit more slapstick than I cared for, though I realize that's part of their characters, charm.

On the whole though, I found myself smiling through most of the film. I'd recommend seeing this.
